Thomas F. "Tommy" "Sonny"
Saxe, III, 74, went Home on July 20, 2005. Tommy was a native of
Beaumont, born at Hotel Dieu Hospital. He served in the Army during the Korean
War. Tommy worked at Mobil Oil Company and retired after 35 years. He was an
avid golfer, playing on the Mobil employee and retiree teams. When he wasn'’t
golfing, Tommy was building something in his shop or popping up in Houston to
visit the museum, zoo or take the family to dinner. He also was a coach for the
Spindletop little league. Everybody should be lucky enough to have an “Uncle
Sonny” – he was loved by all who knew him and he will be sorely missed.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Ellen and Tommy Saxe, Jr. and
brother-in-law, James C. Mitchell, Jr. He is survived by his brother Bill Saxe
and wife Dale of Vidor; sister Betty S. Mitchell of Houston; niece Stephanie
Payne and husband Taras of Beaumont; Niece Margaret Mitchell and nephew Jimmy
Mitchell of Houston. He also had four great-nephews, Taras, Thomas and Thalan
Payne and Steven Mitchell, as well as numerous cousins. The family wishes to
express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Country Dreams in Lumberton,
who made his days as peaceful as possible.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Friday. Funeral service on Saturday at 1:00 PM at
Forest Lawn in Beaumont (4955 Pine Street), officiated by Brother Larry Staggs.
[Reception afterward pending]
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Boys Haven, 3655 N. Major Drive,
