HARRY MYLES MCLEOD, 74, was born June 17, 1925 in Banks, Bradley County, Arkansas and died on February 2, 2000 at Southwest Memorial Hospital. He had suffered a heart attack a couple of weeks before but appeared to be recovering nicely before this final attack.

Mr. McLeod was a retiree of Conoco, Inc., and Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company. He was a graduate of Benton High School, Benton Arkansas. Following active duty in the U.S. Army during World War II, he received an Associate in Science Degree in May 1948 from Arkansas Polytechnic College and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Engineering in January 1951 from Oklahoma University. Mr. McLeod joined the Civilian Conservation Corps between his junior and senior years in high school and credits that organization for his interest in engineering. In September 1943 he volunteered for active duty in the Army and took Infantry Basic Training at Ft. McClellan, Alabama. He was then assigned to ASTP training at Texas A&%3BM University College Station, Texas. In January 1944, he was sent with many others to Camp Howze in Gainesville, Texas, and assigned to Co. G, 411th Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division, as a 60mm mortar gunner. In September 1944, the group sailed for France, and entered into active combat on November 16, 1944. He was severely wounded on December 14, 1944. He was flown from Paris to New York in February 1945 and remained in the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, for a year and three months recovering from the massive injuries incurred in combat. He was honorably discharged from the Army in May 1946. His decorations and citations consisted of the E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal with One Bronze Battle Star, American Theatre Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman's Badge and Expert Infantryman's Badge. He looked forward each year to the annual meeting of the 103rd Infantry and since 1985, he has not missed a reunion.

Mr. McLeod was an active member of the Scottish Clan MacLeod Society, USA, Inc., and held the office of Regional Vice President of the South Central Region of that organization for several years. In 1992, he and Mrs. McLeod established a piping scholarship at St. Thomas Episcopal School through the Dunvegan Foundation of the Clan MacLeod Society. Since that time seven very talented and deserving young piping students have received this scholarship to use in furthering their bagpipe training. Mr. McLeod also participated in the retiree clubs of Conoco and Tenneco and very seldom missed the meetings. He and his wife either ran in or volunteered at the Houston-Tenneco Marathon, more recently known as the Methodist Health Care Marathon, for all but two years of its existence, having missed the first one in 1972 and the last one in 2000 when he was hospitalized with the heart attack.

Mr. McLeod was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Gloria Smith McLeod ; daughters, Rebecca Gail McLeod and Jennie McLeod Kennedy; a sister and husband, Janet and Bill Raymick, seven grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews; grand-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Claud and Dahlia McFarland McLeod.

Funeral services will be under the direction of Forest Park, Westheimer. Visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday with funeral services at Forest Park Funeral Home, Westheimer @ Dairy Ashford at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, February 5, 2000 with Rev. Dr. James Angus McLeod officiating.
