Etta Haney Roman (1932-2007)

ETTA FRANCES HANEY ROMAN, born September 5, 1932 in Pampa, Texas awoke in the arms of Jesus on Tuesday morning, July 17, 2007. Though her loss will be deeply felt by her 3 children: John Roman and wife Sue, Catherine Epps and husband Darrell, and Carolyn Leach and husband Steve, we rejoice that she is now in the presence of her dear husband of almost 49 years, Richard W. Roman, her mother, grandmother and first grandchild. We're sure now that she is free of her breathing difficulties, she is revamping all of Heaven's vegetable gardens, while Lady Bird Johnson works on the flowers. What a pair! In the past few days, many friends have described Etta as a "force of nature" and a true Texas lady. We couldn't agree more. She was extremely petite but in physical size only; her love could absolutely fill the room. After suffering through some extreme health issues she was back...full of life and joy-her passions being her God, her family, giving hugs and her garden. It was her garden that brought her back to life and she most felt her Lord's presence amid her plants. There will be a memorial service celebrating her life at Southwest Presbyterian Church, 6033 S. Rice in Bellaire (713-432-0400) Saturday at 11 am with a reception immediately following. The family wishes to honor her desire of "flowers for the living rather than the dead" therefore donations can be made for the medical care of her precious grandson, Iain Epps, who suffered a severe brain injury. Checks should be made out to Etta Roman, with Iain Epps name in the memo line and sent to Guaranty Bank, Attn: Carlos Escamilla, 14703 Eagle Vista Dr., Houston, TX 77077. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Eagle's Trace who treated her like a queen!
