EARL U. LINZZA, age 84, died in Houston, on Friday, July 1, 2005, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded at the time of his passing by his family who loved him so very much. He was born January 13, 1921 in San Antonio, Texas to Emme Tadlock Ullrich Linzza and Otto Ullrich. His stepfather was Henry Linzza. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1938, and studied electrical engineering at the University of Houston. Earl was a WW II and Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Earl was married on November 11, 1947, to his loving wife of 35 years, Melba A. Christoffel.

Earl worked for 37 years in Pipeline Operations for Gulf Oil Company. Many lifelong friendships were made while working for Gulf in Houston, Midland, Anderson, South Carolina; and Atlanta, Georgia. Earl was an enthusiastic participant and supporter of the Houston Highland Games Association, serving as Athletic Director from 1987 - 2004. Through his many years of dedication and volunteer service to the Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America he set a fine example of service to others. He served six summers as Camp Commissioner at El Rancho Cima Horseshoe Bend Scout Camp. An active, strong and athletic man, He was always ready to dance the jitterbug with any willing female partner.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, and his parents. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, and by six grandchildren: daughter Deborah Kennedy and husband Stephen, granddaughter Meghan of Houston; daughter Pamela Haynes and husband Lee, granddaughters Linda and Natalie of Houston; and son Christopher Linzza and wife Kristina, grandsons Collin and Harrison and granddaughter Shelby Faye of El Campo. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held in the Chapel of the Chimes at Brookside Cemetery, 13401 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Melvyn Douglass will officiate. Immediately following, Earl will be interred alongside Melba at Brookside Cemetery in Houston. In lieu of flowers, all those who wish to remember and honor Earl may make contributions to the Sam Houston Area Council, Boy Scouts of America Memorial Tribute Fund P.O.
